In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology in the state of West Virginia, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the West Virginia State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists for more information.
Requirements
Cosmetology: 2,000 hours
Esthetics: 600 hours
Nail Technology: 400 hours
Reciprocity
Reciprocity will be granted if training equals or exceeds the requirements for a West Virginia license. The West Virginia Board will accept actual licensed work experience in lieu of part of the required training. Work experience is awarded at 25 hours per month of salon work, or 300 hours per year. Total work experience that may be accepted cannot exceed 50% of the required hours, and must have been acquired within the past 5 years.
