In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, barbering or nail technology in the state of Virginia, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology for more information.
Requirements
Cosmetology: 1,500 hours
Barbering: 1,500 hours
Nail Technology: 150 hours
Reciprocity
Upon proper application to the board, any person currently licensed to practice as a barber, cosmetologist or nail technician in any other state or jurisdiction of the United States and who has completed both a training program and a written and practical examination that is substantially equivalent to that required by these regulations may be issued a barber or cosmetology license, respectively, without an examination.
