In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics, and nail technology in the state of North Dakota, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the North Dakota Board of Cosmetology for more information.
Requirements
Each person who desires to secure an operator's license shall file a written application under oath. This North Dakota Board of Cosmetology supplies the applications, and you may file them with the secretary of the board. The application must be accompanied by:
- Satisfactory proof of the educational qualifications required of a student
- An examination fee as may be fixed by the board
- Satisfactory proof that the applicant has completed the required training in a school of cosmetology
- A fee for original licensure
Cosmetology: 1800 hours
Esthetics: 600 hours
Manicure: 350 hours
Reciprocity
A person who is licensed or registered as a cosmetologist under the laws of any other state (or country, or territory of the United States, or District of Columbia) may be granted reciprocity and a license to practice cosmetology without requirement of examination. The applicant's license must be from a state with substantially equal or greater licensing requirements than those required in the state of North Dakota. Additional requirements may also apply.
