In order to obtain a license in nail technology, cosmetology, esthetics, barbering, or electrology in the state of New Mexico, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the New Mexico Board of Cosmetology for more information.
Requirements
Cosmetologist: 1,600 hours
Barber: 1,200 hours
Manicurist/Pedicurist: 350 hours
Esthetician: 600 hours
Manicurist/Esthetician: 600 hours
Instructor: 1,000 hours
Additional Requirements
All applicants must be at least 17 years of age and have a minimum of 2 years in high school or its equivalent.
Reciprocity
Applicants who have not completed a course of study equal to the requirements of this state may receive credit for work experience. For every 6 full months of work completed, the applicant will be credited with 150 hours of training. Any applicants that HAVE completed a course with requirements equal to this state must furnish a transcript of hours and a copy of a valid license.
