In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, nail technology electrology or esthetics in the state of Montana, students must complete the requirements listed below.

Work Hour Requirements:
- Cosmetology: 2000 hours
- Esthetics: 650 hours
- Electrology: 600 hours
- Nail Technician: 350 hours
License Fees (annual or biennial):
- Cosmetologist: $45
- Electrologist: $45
- Esthetician: $45
- Manicurist: $45
- Salon Owner: $50
Reciprocity
An applicant with less than the hours required by Montana must take the National Practical and Written exams. An applicant may take the additional hours from an approved school.
General Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must pass the Montana Board approved Cosmetology exam at 75% proficiency or higher.
Verification of license history from each state in which the applicant holds or has held a license in.
